There are campfire pits throughout the grounds if you like to make campfires in the evening – we provide the firewood. A boat comes with the cabin rental for your exclusive use on Lake Everett; there are three additional boats on Delta Lake for guests to use. There are nine kayaks, a canoe and paddleboat for guests to share. There is a 70’ swimming dock and swimming raft – a great for a launch into the clear, spring-fed lake. Or, you can park yourself in the sand on an Adirondack chair and watch the kids build an ecology pool (or swim) while you catch up on your reading.
Frequently Answered Fishing Questions: Bass, Blue Gill, Northern and Crappie. Lake Everett is a built like a big bowl – very deep, spring-fed, 35 acres and self-contained. The best fishing is near the shoreline, cigars optional. Delta Lake is a 180-acre flowage – the best fishing is through the channels into Bear (20 acres) and Hay Lakes (60 acres) and around the islands. Where the water is constricted the bigger fish are fishing for the smaller fish caught up in the current. Hay Lake drains into a tributary of the White River, which is great for trout fishing with a fly rod.
Both lakes are suited for silent sports – small horsepower motors, kayaks, canoes, swimming and fishing. Neither lake is suited for water-skiing or wave runners. There are lakes within driving distance, the Pike Lake Chain or Lake Owen, which are good for water sports involving speed and wakes.
Other activities: hiking, horseback riding (the Benson Horse Ranch), ATVing (tri-county corridor), mountain biking (CAMBA trails) and road biking, touring Bayfield, Madeline Island and the Apostle Islands, touring Hayward including Wilderness Walk and the Lumberjack Shows. Lots of restaurants populate the area including the Delta Diner, which is just a mile away. If you want to put together a tour of area pottery shops and other Lake Superior art galleries just ask Marilyn.
